Incredible Photos of Yemeni island includes of 20 million-year-old plants

A set of images and footage of the outlying  island "Socotra" located in the Indian Ocean.

The island has about 800 species of the most common types of rare plants and animals in the world,  the age of some of the plants reaches for more than 20 million years. The third of those species of plants exists only in the island , and can not be seen  in any other place on the earth.

Socotra is One of the main parts that broke away from the continent of Africa before six or seven million years ago, and far about 250 km from Somalia and 340 kilometers from Yemen, ie, it is located in the Middle East.

The island is characterized by the harsh environment and the broad sandy beaches, limestone caves, towering mountains, the climate is very warm and very dry.

Soqotra, is a small archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean. The largest island, also called Socotra, is about 95% of the landmass of the archipelago. Socotra is part of the Republic of Yemen. It had long been a part of the 'Adan Governorate. In 2004, it became attached to the Hadhramaut Governorate, which is much closer to the island than 'Aden (although the nearest governorate is Al Mahrah). via

The island was recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world natural heritage site in July 2008.
