Transnistria - One of The Unrecognized states


Transnistria shall mean the eastern River Dnestiria, is a disputed area in Eastern Europe.

 Declared its independence in 1990 during the fall of the Soviet Union and sequential declaration of independence by the Soviet republics.  Transnistria was a then-subsidiary of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Moldova declared independence followed to Transnistria War in 1992 between Russia-backed separatists and the Moldovan police forces.  Moldova does not recognize the independence of Transnistria and considers part of its territory. Transnistria is a de facto independent but lacks any international recognition and is considered legally belonging to Moldova. Recognizing only the Republic of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.



According to the 1989 census, the population was 679.000 inhabitants, including all locations of the security zone, which is located under Moldovan control. According to the 2004 census, the population was 555.347, with the exception of the areas under the control of the Moldovan.

The Transnistria has mixed economy. During the nineties there was a process of privatization of enterprises. The economy is based on heavy industry and electricity production and textile, industry 80% of the industry.GDP is about $ 420 million.

Transnistria Central Bank is responsible for the printing of local currency, rubles Transnistria, it is converted floating exchange rate. Applies only within the separatist territories.
