Just in China, Going for a walk with cabbage

If several Western media outlets are to be believed, there's a new trend in China where teens have started to take heads of cabbage on walks on leashes to combat loneliness and depression. "I have more interest for my cabbage than I do my parents. I feel it understands me," the Huffington Post quoted a Chinese teen as saying in an article published earlier this month.

"I feel I can transfer my negative thoughts about myself to the cabbage, go for a walk with it and come home feeling better about myself," the website quotes another Chinese teen as saying. The only problem, however, is that it isn't true -- not all of it, anyway. Indeed, Chinese teens have been spotted walking around the streets of Beijing lugging heads of cabbage behind them on leashes. But it isn't new, it isn't a 'trend,' and it has nothing to do with combating loneliness. Rather, it's part of a performance art piece by Chinese artist Han Bing that was unveiled at the Beijing music festival.

A cop man became a woman after his annual leave

A top Brazilian police officer who 'exuded testosterone' has shocked colleagues by taking a long holiday, only to return to active duty as a woman. Thiago de Costa Teixeira, 33, served in an anti-drugs unit and is currently in charge of a division in the city of Goiana. He took a three-month holiday at the end of last year in order to get a sex change in Thailand, and will return to work as Laura next month.

Her 'bravery' has been hailed by superiors in the police force, and LGBT campaigners have said that it is a first for a Brazilian worker not to be forced out of their job after having a sex change. The police officer was previously married to a woman and has two young sons.Along with the sex change operation Miss Teixeira also had facial reconstruction surgery to create a softer female jawline and nose.

Miss Teixeira, who has applied to have a gender and first name changed legally, said: 'I’ve always wanted to be a woman. But I was too ashamed to admit it. Eventually I couldn’t hide who I was.'At first I was worried about how my police colleagues would react to the news but so far the reception has been great.

'I haven’t received a negative comment from any of the people I work with. In fact, everyone is treating me as if nothing has happened, she told Brazilian newspaper O Popular.

Brazil suffers from a high level of homophobic violence and abuse. According to government statistics complaints of violence against gay people more than doubled between 2012 and 2013.

Miss Teixeira has already indicated that he plans to ask for a transfer from his old job running the police station in Goiana to the police unit that specialises in tackling crime against females.

'I feel that as a woman now I can make a difference investigating and helping transgender victims in particular who suffer abuse and violence because of who they choose to be,' she said.

Unimaginable Magic Using Playing cards

First of all, what is magic? and what is the difference between magic and optical illusion?

Magic or sorcery is an attempt to understand, experience and influence the world using rituals, symbols, actions, gestures and language. Modern Western magicians generally state magic's primary purpose to be personal spiritual growth. Modern theories of magic may see it as the result of a universal sympathy where some act can produce a result somewhere else, or as a collaboration with spirits who cause the effect.

The belief in and the practice of magic has been present since the earliest human cultures and continues to have an important religious and medicinal role in many cultures today. Magic is often viewed with suspicion by the wider community, and is sometimes practiced in isolation and secrecy.

The concept of magic as a category separate from religion first appeared in Judaism, which derided as magic the practices of pagan worship designed to appease and receive benefits from gods other than Yahweh. Hanegraaff argues that magic is in fact "...a largely polemical concept that has been used by various religious interest groups either to describe their own religious beliefs and practices or – more frequently – to discredit those of others". via

So is this Magic or Optical Illusion

The Best Way to Pass Exams For Those Who Don't Like to Study

In your opinion, what is the best way to pass exams for those who don't like to study? the best way in my opinion is cheating, isn't it?

Ah! the exams are just around the corner and there is so much of the syllabus still left to cover. Story of every student’s life. Anxiety and fear has often pushed us to cheat. We all have seen, heard or even participated in some form of cheating. I had a friend who would put all his time making chits (‘farrahs’- we would call it), before the exams, instead of studying. His argument: most of the subjects are unimportant and a waste of time.

 Prevent Cheating on Exams

  • Draw your students' attention to the sections of the Handbook on Student Rights and Responsibilities that concern academic offences.
  • Explain to your students what cheating is.
  • Use multiple versions of the exam.
  •  Use randomized assigned seating for midterms.

The combustion of mercury - The Pharaoh's serpent

Mercury thiocyanate was formerly used in pyrotechnics causing an effect known as the Pharaoh's serpent or Pharaoh's snake. When the compound is in the presence of a strong enough heat source, a rapid exothermic reaction is started which produces a large mass of coiling serpent-like solid. An inconspicuous flame which is often blue but can also occur in yellow/orange accompanies the combustion. The resulting solid can range from dark graphite grey to light tan in color with the inside generally much darker than the outside.

This property was discovered by Wöhler in 1821, soon after the first synthesis of mercury thiocyanate: "winding out from itself at the same time worm-like processes, to many times its former bulk, a very light material the color of graphite...". For some time, a firework product called "Pharaoschlangen" was available to the public in Germany, but was eventually banned when the toxic properties of the product were discovered through the death of several children mistakenly eating the resulting solid.

A similar, although less extreme, effect to the Pharaoh's serpent can be achieved using a firework known as a black snake. These are generally benign products, usually consisting of sodium bicarbonate or a mixture of linseed oil and naphthalenes.

Super-Elastic and Flexible Statue Material

Super stretchy material stretches to eight times its size without ripping

The stretchy plastic material pictured is incredibly soft and stretches to about eight times its original size. It is a very durable material that stretches easily and can be injection molded to any shape. It is remarkable how easily you can double its size, and then double it again, and double it again and again without requiring much effort—and without ripping it.

There are two types of thermoplastics used as substitutes for rubber. These synthetic rubbers are what you are probably familiar with as the “gel” material used in a lot of computer mouse pads, seat cushions, and bicycle seats. These “gels” are typically made using materials based on Kraton or Septon, the trade names for two common formulations. Within the basic formulations, the stretchiness, softness, squishiness and strength can be customized for the application you need. What we are featuring here is a formulation that has a remarkable combination of being incredibly elastic and easy to stretch, yet very difficult to rip.

Have you seen the shape of the smallest details of snowflakes

The Russian professional photographer Alexei Kgatov use his microscopic lenses to photograph snowflakes with high accuracy.

It's known that snowflakes are not similar at all, such as fingerprints, and they influenced by composition changes very minor degrees of air and moisture that pass by during a freeze in the fall trip to Earth.

A snowflake is either a single ice crystal or an aggregation of ice crystals which falls through the Earth's atmosphere. They begin as snow crystals which develop when microscopic supercooled cloud droplets freeze. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Complex shapes emerge as the flake moves through differing temperature and humidity regimes, such that individual snowflakes are nearly unique in structure. Snowflakes encapsulated in rime form balls known as graupel. Snowflakes appear white in color despite being made of clear ice. This is due to diffuse reflection of the whole spectrum of light by the small crystal facets.

A man and woman joined the Britain's Got Talent ( BGT ) to show their skills and talent, at the first time the get two NO but then all the audience and arbitrators were amazed. and I am amazed also, is this real? is this magic or illusion? An illusion is a distortion of the senses, revealing how the brain normally organizes and interprets sensory stimulation. Though illusions distort reality, they are generally shared by most people. Illusions may occur with any of the human senses, but visual illusions (optical illusions), are the most well-known and understood. The emphasis on visual illusions occurs because vision often dominates the other senses.

Magic is a performing art that entertains audiences by staging tricks or creating illusions of seemingly impossible or supernaturalfeats using natural means. These feats are called magic tricks, effects, or illusions.
A professional who performs such illusions is called a magician or an illusionist. Some performers may also be referred to by names reflecting the type of magical effects they present, such as prestidigitators, conjurors, hypnotists, mentalists, or escape artists.

Britain's Got Talent (often shortened to BGT) is a British television talent show competition which started in June 2007 and originated from the Got Talent franchise. Health insurance Saves Your Health but not Your Life

Health insurance is insurance against the risk of incurring medical expenses among individuals. By estimating the overall risk of health care and health system expenses, among a targeted group, an insurer can develop a routine finance structure, such as a monthly premium or payroll tax, to ensure that money is available to pay for the health care benefits specified in the insurance agreement. The benefit is administered by a central organization such as a government agency, private business, or not-for-profit entity. According to the Health Insurance Association of America, health insurance is defined as "coverage that provides for the payments of benefits as a result of sickness or injury. Includes insurance for losses from accident, medical expense, disability, or accidental death and dismemberment". Via
